That is indeed a valuable lesson to have learned. Get an electronic one: Yea they're geeky, but wayyyy more useful and less time consuming than a paper planner.
I disagree with Trent Stick with paper planners. they take up more space, waste more trees, get messer, and well are just more manageable than electronic ones:
I've tried the paper planner this semester, and this semester I have missed/forgotten one too many things...as much as I love the doodling, I've got pages and pages of notes and an ample amount of lecture time to dedicate to this very task. The geek route I must go.

Shut it Ms. Sassy Pants
bleh. electronic planner sucks.
if you are looking to be more creative, make your own system of organizing using paper planner or read "getting things done".
Creative they are not, but when Outlook dings, that means I have to get my ass in gear, quickly.
Show me a paper planner that talks like a microwave, and Ill concede.
Well...
I've sold my sole to the electronic planner; it was purchased earlier today.
I'm in love with this thing.
Andddd it has an electronic sketchpad
